Our house was built in 1978. Slowly, but surely, we have replaced most of the infrastructure (some more than once). This was a fun, and very necessary, upgrade.
BEFORE:
I think it is/was real wood, painted MANY times, with moulding to create detail (and collect dust) and brass fixtures all original to the house. We went through a period where the lock didn’t unlock and/or the door didn’t close all the way…
AFTER:
It’s not terribly fancy, but I adore the color (it came primed and we painted it). Blue is my happy color. The glass is always tricky because we wanted a balance of privacy and light. Also, the front door looks straight up into the master bedroom so, well, you can never be too careful…
Bryce: Um, is that the color you want it to be?
Me: Yes! I love it, don’t you?
Bryce: Well, it’s not what I would have picked. I mean, I don’t think the house can really pull that look off. Sorry.
Looking at these pictures, I’m thinking I really need to add some container plants to set it off. However, I do not have good luck with container gardening and may be accused of involuntary plant- slaughter. Hmm, that reminds me of the famous children’s book:
If you buy a woman a front door, she’ll want a patio to go with it. If you buy a woman a patio, it will need landscaping. If you buy landscaping, she’ll need a new car to look great in the driveway…etc. *sigh*
OK, maybe doesn’t say EXACTLY that. But, today I’m very happy with my new blue door!!!
